Common issues

What goes wrong with an ordinary mirror.

  • Black edges within about a year

The dark speckling that creeps in from the edge of a bathroom mirror is the silver backing reacting with moisture. Once it starts it does not stop, and it cannot be cleaned off — the mirror is simply finished.

  • A reflection that is not quite right

Cheap mirror glass reflects with a slight waviness, and a raw cut edge is both sharp and unfinished. You notice it every day without being able to say what is wrong.

  • A standard size never fits the wall

Real walls have switches, sockets and skirting in the way, and a mirror bought off a shelf leaves you choosing between an awkward gap and covering something you need.

  • The mirror you want will not fit through the door

A wall-width mirror has to get up the staircase or into the lift before it can go on the wall. This is the reason most people are quietly talked down to a smaller mirror than the one they wanted.

Value 01 · It stays clear

The black edge is the backing, not the glass.

In our experience, where an ordinary mirror starts spotting within about a year, an ORE mirror stays clear for three to four years or longer.

Why it stays clear

A mirror is glass with a silver backing, and in an ordinary mirror that silver reacts with moisture — worst in a bathroom — until the dark speckling reaches in from the edges. An ORE mirror is copper-free: the backing strongly resists that reaction, so in our experience, where an ordinary mirror starts spotting within about a year, an ORE mirror stays clear for three to four years or longer, and longer still in a dry, well-ventilated space. That is experience, not a warranty.

  • Copper-free backing — strongly resists oxidation
  • Made by an ISO 9001-certified factory
  • 5mm as standard, with a polished edge
  • Low distortion — a flat reflection on a flat wall

Value 02 · It fits your wall

Cut to the wall you actually have.

Every ORE mirror is made to your measurement, including the cut-outs for whatever is already on the wall.

How it fits your wall

Every ORE mirror is made to your measurement, including the cut-outs for whatever is already on the wall. And when a wall is wider than the way into the room, that is ordinary work rather than a compromise: we cut the mirror into panels that fit the lift, the staircase or the doorway, and join them neatly on the wall. Same size once it is up, and no difference to the price.

  • Made to your measurement, not to a standard size
  • Cut around plug points, switches and shelves
  • Split into panels where a single piece cannot get in — joined on the wall
  • Old mirror taken down, on its own or as one dismantle-and-install job

Answers: a standard size never fits the wall · it will not fit through the door

Value 03 · Style

So which mirror should you have?

Three questions decide it: where it is going, the finish you want to live with, and what the wall itself is like.

STEP 01

Where it goes decides the shape

Bathroom

Above the basin, where the shape does most of the work.

  • A1 · Round
  • A2 · Half-round
  • A3 · Rectangular
  • A4 · Arch

Wall

A feature wall, a hallway, a dining room. Here the finish is the choice.

  • B1 · Bronze
  • B2 · Clear
  • B3 · Grey
  • B4 · Full-body clear

Studio & gym

Wall-to-wall, where the mirror is the room.

  • C1 · Curve-rounding
  • C2 · Rectangular
STEP 02

The finish

  • Clear

The standard bright mirror. What most people picture when they say mirror.

  • Bronze

A warm tinted tone. More decorative, and it reads as a deliberate design choice rather than a mirror.

  • Grey

A smoky tint. Quieter than bronze, and it sits well against dark or timber walls.

STEP 03

Three things about the wall

  • How big is the wall?

Width and height, in cm or in feet — either is fine, just tell us which. A photo of the wall with something familiar in shot helps us sense-check it.

  • Is anything in the way?

Switches, plug points, a shelf, skirting. We cut around them rather than working around them, so tell us what is there.

  • How does it get in?

Landed, condo or shoplot, and which floor. It decides whether the mirror comes in as one piece or as joined panels — see Value 02.

Before you ask

The questions we get every week.

Ask ORE

Why is an ORE mirror more than an ordinary one?

It is copper-free mirror from an ISO 9001-certified factory. The backing resists the black-edge oxidation that, in our experience, ordinary mirrors show within about a year. It comes with polished edges and is installed by ORE-approved installers, with ORE responsible from order to handover.

What is the difference between Clear and Bronze?

Clear is the standard bright mirror. Bronze has a warm tinted tone for a more decorative, premium look. Grey is a smoky tint, quieter than bronze.

How do you get a big mirror into a condo?

We do not send one giant piece. We cut it into panels that fit the way in — the lift, the staircase, the doorway — and join them neatly on the wall, so it still reads as one full mirror. Same size on the wall, and no difference to the price.

Can you cut around my plug points?

Yes. Cut-outs for sockets and switches are normal work — send a photo of the wall with them in shot and we will plan it before anything is cut.

Can you remove my old mirror?

Yes. We can take the old one down on its own, or dismantle and install the new one as a single job.

Do you install?

Yes — supply and installation by ORE-approved installers, included.

Is there a delivery charge?

No — delivery is included within the areas we cover.

Which areas do you cover?

Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Selangor, Penang, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor — with no delivery charge inside those areas.

How long does it take?

Usually 7–10 days from your enquiry to a finished installation.

Why 5mm and not 6mm?

5mm is the usual choice for home and bathroom mirrors — for most sizes, around 3 × 5 ft, it is flat, strong enough and easy to fix. 6mm is for very large, frameless floor-standing or gym mirrors: stiffer, but about 20% heavier and dearer. Thickness does not decide black edges; the copper-free backing, the edges and the room do. 4mm and 6mm are available to order.

Do you do bevelled edges, holes and L-shaped cuts?

Yes. A bevelled edge is usually 10–25mm wide. Screw holes, notches, socket cut-outs and L-shaped cuts are made to your drawing — send a sketch with each position measured from the edge. Round, square and other shapes are cut from a size drawing, CAD file or photo.

Can I add a safety backing film?

Yes. The film on the back holds the pieces together if the mirror breaks. It is optional at home and strongly recommended for gyms, changing rooms and public spaces.

Do you sell tempered mirror?

No. Tempered mirror is tougher, but tempering tends to leave a slight wave in the reflection, and it does nothing for black edges. Where knocks are a worry, we add safety backing film or use a thicker mirror instead.

How is the mirror fixed to the wall?

It depends on the size. Small mirrors use clips or mirror adhesive; large, bathroom and gym mirrors use neutral, mirror-safe adhesive with a bottom channel. We never use acid-cure silicone, which attacks the backing. The adhesive goes on in vertical strips with air left behind the mirror, it is supported for the first day and fully cured in 48–72 hours — and once glued, a mirror cannot be taken down without breaking.

What does my wall need?

A dry, sound wall. Damp, mouldy or wallpapered walls are repaired first, and fresh paint needs 7–14 days. A wall more than 5mm out of flat is levelled first, or the reflection will bend. Keep the mirror 15–25 cm away from water heaters and strong lamps.

How do I clean it?

A microfibre cloth with water or an ammonia-free glass cleaner, sprayed on the cloth rather than the mirror, and dry the edges. Don't use ammonia cleaners, bleach, strong acids or alkalis, scouring pads, steel wool, toothpaste or blades — and don't let water sit at the edges, which speeds up black edges.

Is there a warranty on the mirror?

There is no written warranty on mirror glass — how long it stays clear depends on moisture and care. What ORE does stand behind: if our measurement is wrong, or the mirror breaks in delivery or installation, ORE remakes it at no cost to you.

Can I change the size after paying the deposit?

Once the mirror is cut it cannot be altered, so sizes cannot be changed and the order cannot be cancelled after production starts, and the deposit is not refundable. That is why we measure on site first.
